Goji Berries grow on the high lands of Tibet, Mongolia and Ningxia in China. The Wild Goji Berries may be found around Himalayan area. As a tonic, it is one of the most famous Chinese medicinal herbs used in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) more than thousand years. There are about 50-60 formal Chinese herbal tonics used in TCM, only 2 of them, Goji Berries and Chinese Yam may be taken daily as regular food. Goji leaf is tasty vegetable, its fruit and root are used in several hundreds of Chinese herbal formulas to protect the Liver, the Kidney and Adrenal Gland, to nourish the Blood, to help eyesight, to improve sexual function and fertility. These herbal formulas in TCM may be used for impotence, aching back and legs, diabetes, fatigue, low immune function, promoting longevity and so on.

It has been found by the present research and studies that Goji Berries are rich in antioxidants, the highest value in almost all common fruits and vegetables (see chart below), particularly carotenoids such as beta-carotene and zeaxanthin which is very important for eyes retina. The ORAC (Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity) unit, ORAC value, or ORAC score is a method of measuring the antioxidant capacity of different foods and supplements. It was developed by scientists at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to rate the antioxidant levels of fruits, vegetables and other foods. Goji Berries are ranked as one of the best antioxidant foods* in the world, 5-20 times higher than our regular fruits and vegetables.

* It was reported that Acai Berries have highest ORAC value in all food products, but it more likes health food product (in capsule, tablet or liquid forms) rather than a regular food while Goji Berries are taken as regular food in Asia for hundred years at least.

** No information for green tea (dried leaf) in this database. The tea leaf should have higher ORAC value, about 7000-8000 from other sources.
